Directed and co-written by acclaimed filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón (Y tu mamá también), Children of Men is an incredible dystopian drama that lacks all of the typical trappings of the genre. Set uncomfortably close to the present, it paints a frighteningly realistic picture of the future. One generation from now, in 2027, humanity has fallen into anarchy on the heels of an infertility defect in the global population. The world’s youngest citizen has just died at 18, and humanity is facing the likelihood of its own extinction.

Set against the backdrop of England torn apart by violence and warring sects, Children of Men follows Theo (Clive Owen, Closer), a disillusioned bureaucrat attempting to make a life in these hellish surroundings. His only friend is Jasper (Michael Caine, The Quiet American), a reclusive hippie who offers a charming, counterculture view of the crumbling world. But when Theo’s estranged wife Julian (Julianne Moore, Far from Heaven) convinces him to help transport a young woman to safety, their journey takes on a significance—and a danger—that he never imagined.
